Molybdenum Isotopic Fingerprints in Taiwan Rivers: Natural versus Anthropogenic Sources

نویسندگان

چکیده

Two rivers from Taiwan with different source inputs, the Danshuei (polluted) and Liwu (non-polluted), were selected to study behavior of molybdenum (Mo) isotopes during weathering riverine transport. In River, δ98/95Mo ranges 0.83‰ 1.50‰ (wet season) 0.54‰ 1.25‰ (dry season). With a few exceptions, in River is lighter wet season, while, contrast, heavier dry season. varies 1.30‰ gets along mainstream. Using MixSIAR model, three Mo sources are identified River: seawater intrusion, rock–water interaction, anthropogenic inputs. Seawater intrusion can explain heavy downstream signal season contributing 14–39% model. However, most likely due inputs middle lower reaches 75–98%. dissolved correlate SO42−/Na (Sr/Na) ×1000 ratio, suggesting that pyrite oxidation coupled carbonate governs signature, sequestration light into secondary mineral phases bedload sediments. Furthermore, these results have important implications for ocean, controlled by activity processes.

Isotopic Clues to Sources of Natural and Anthropogenic Lead in Sediments and Soils from O'ahu, Hawai'i

Stable Pb isotopes, Pb elemental concentrations, and, for some samples, Nd and Sr isotopes and concentrations have been analyzed on soils and on stream and estuarine sediments to evaluate the provenance of major inputs of Pb to the O'ahu, Hawai'i, environment. Core samples from the Ala Wai Canal, a major estuary draining urban Honolulu, preserve a historical record of anthropogenic lead input t...

Natural versus anthropogenic subsidence of Venice

We detected land displacements of Venice by Persistent Scatterer Interferometry using ERS and ENVISAT C-band and TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed X-band acquisitions over the periods 1992-2010 and 2008-2011, respectively. By reason of the larger observation period, the C-band sensors was used to quantify the long-term movements, i.e. the subsidence component primarily ascribed to natural processes. ...

Anthropogenic and natural sources of ambient noise in the ocean

Ocean ambient noise results from both anthropogenic and natural sources. Different noise sources are dominant in each of 3 frequency bands: low (10 to 500 Hz), medium (500 Hz to 25 kHz) and high (>25 kHz). The low-frequency band is dominated by anthropogenic sources: primarily, commercial shipping and, secondarily, seismic exploration. Shipping and seismic sources contribute to ambient noise ac...

Biogenic Versus Anthropogenic Sources of CO in the United States

[1] Aircraft observations of carbon monoxide (CO) from the ICARTT campaign over the eastern United States in summer 2004 (July 1–August 15), interpreted with a global 3-D model of tropospheric chemistry (GEOS-Chem), show that the national anthropogenic emission inventory from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (93 Tg CO y ) is too high by 60% in summer. Our best estimate of the CO anthrop...

Basin geochemistry and isotopic ratios of fishes and basal production sources in four neotropical rivers

We analysed stable carbon and nitrogen isotopic ratios of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), plants, detritus and fishes to estimate the relative importance of dominant production sources supporting food webs of four Venezuelan rivers with divergent geochemical and watershed characteristics. Based on samples taken during the dry season at each site, fishes from two nutrient-poor, blackwater rive...
